The name Zephaniah means “The Lord hides”. It can also mean the Lord protects. In the bible, the book of Zephaniah announces to Judah the coming of the day of the Lord. On that day, God would severely punish the nations but also that God will be merciful to His people. The world as we know it is experiencing a new-norm. The invisible enemy, the unknown, has devastated our nations.
We are encouraged to gather together as a nation, seek the Lord, righteousness, humility and “perhaps you will be sheltered on the day of the LORD’S anger”, (Zephaniah 2:3). While we’re at it, let us sing. Zephaniah 3:14 reads “v14. Sing, O Daughter of Zion; shout aloud, O Israel! Be glad and rejoice with all your heart, O daughter of Jerusalem!”, “v17. The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save.”, “v20. At that time I will gather you…”. So, even though, for a short while, we’re distant from each other, be encouraged that we will be gathered with one another again. In the meantime be thankful that the Lord hides you and protects you. Zephaniah, sounds like a greeting as well as a farewell. Zephaniah for now.
